My favourite view

This is the Ngong Hills just outside Nairobi. I have lived in their shadow most of my life and just can never tire of this view.

This is the sign at the entrance to the park.

Fab isn't it.

What to do in case of rain and window winding failure!

I'm sure this could get a bit tricky when he gets stuck in traffic and has to hold his umbrella and drive the car and perhaps change gear . . ?

And there's more . . .

And now I have this little gathering of about 6 weavers that seemed to have stopped by to chat about their day too.

The noise of all the birds at this time of the day is so nice. I wish I could record it and share it with you but I'm afraid I'm just not that tech savy.

You'll just have to close your eyes and imagine it.

Beautiful huh?

Moving In!

I'm not sure how clearly this picture will come out but this is two little Pied Wagtails that have decided to set up home in my roof.

They're really very sweet although I do have a tin roof on my house so they're really very noisy at this time of the evening when they come back from their day out on the town.

I do hope they got a chance to vote!

Xmas fairy

Our fairy from the top of our Christmas tree hasn't been seen for a couple of days and we assumed she'd got annoyed and done a runner after having quite enough of that Christmas tree branch stuck up her skirt.

Anyway I have just found these few bits in the garden and I have to assume that one of the dogs had finally had enough of her taking top job crowning the Christmas tree and has actually eaten her.

It's a sad demise for a Christmas fairy don't you think? I can only hope she was very tasty!

Merry Christmas to all you fairys out there still sitting in your tree tops and best wishes for the rest of the Christmas season..

Air conditioning?

I suppose this is one way of keeping the matatu (minibus) cool! .......

Actually think I might try that driving with the door open - could probably save a bit on fuel!

Shops for the musical biker?

Just passed this shop in town.

I'm not sure how clear it is but they are selling motor bikes at the front of the shop and guitars at the back - not sure how they are related but perhaps we have lots of musical bikers out there in Nairobi - could be its our version of the Hells Angels - instead of leather jackets (as its far too hot for those at the moment), perhaps they strap a guitar to their backs instead as some form of protection when they hit the dirt!

Mmmmm . . . Food for thought . . .

Xmas our end

Just wanted you all to know that although the sun is shining and the ground is as hard as rock we do Christmas too - although perhaps in plastic - it's still pretty festive!

I'm not sure if you can tell as I took this picture with my phone, but this morning we were hanging out at the foot of mount kilimanjaro.

It is so awesome!

Corruption?

Hey. Who says our police are corrupt? . . .
That matatu (minibus) has just overtaken me and I'm doing 100 kph!
There used to be a law in this country that all matatus are fitted with speed governors that don't allow them to go over 80 kph - seems his has slipped passed the cops and yet we've just come through a police check.
Perhaps it is time for change?
. . . . At least the maasai didn't get swept off his bike!

Clothes Shopping

This is clothes shopping round ours!

Don't suppose it's anything like the range you get in Marks and Spencers?

(as you may have guessed, I was actually driving my car whilst taking this photo for you, so please feel free to help me post my bail!)

Thanks in advance.

Sheltering from the storm.

Stormy weather approaching so need to take cover.

As you can see, over here that means under the nearest umbrella at the local kiosk (shop).

You would even say it glows . . .

Kenyans shocked?

This is the headlines in one of our newspapers today. Although I'm not sure we're shocked. Are we?

We most definitely expected politicians to pay out loads of cash to bribe people to vote for them and the fact that only one third of the money given out actually got to the voters and the rest went into the pockets of the agents is absolutely no surprise to any of us either surely!

The best thing I did hear that this report found out, was that something like only 3 in 9 of those people bribed actually voted for the politician who bribed them.

To me that at least shows we might be getting somewhere.

Take the money and vote for who you want to is most definitely progress in my book!

My drive to work

Am so excited this morning as they've graded the road that I take between my son's school and my office.

Obviously someone with some serious clout lives in these parts or it would never have got done. Sadly that is the way it works in the corrupt world that we live in, but hey this morning I'm NOT complaining believe me!

Foot flat down on accelerator.

Here I go!

Thank goodness its Sunday!

It's a pretty tough life being a guard dog.

Sometimes you just collapse with utter exhaustion after chasing people, horses and other dogs up and down the fence all day.

Thank goodness its Sunday and I can take the day off. As you can tell I'm in need of some serious r & r.
